The city of Scottsdale is named after U.S. Army Chaplain Winfield Scott who came to the area in 1888. He saw the potential the area had and purchased a large portion of land which is now known as Downtown Scottsdale. Most people that moved to this area in its early years were well-educated and prominent. As the depression hit, many artists and architects moved to Scottsdale. One of most renown people to live there was Frank Lloyd Wright. Over the years, Scottsdale became the place to be.
Scottsdale has many schools to choose from. Some of the best are Sequoya Elementary School, Shepherd of the Desert School, and Chaparral High School.
